Fr. Patrick Spicer

Parochial Vicar

Hello everyone! My name is Father Patrick Aloysius Spicer and I am very excited to be here at the Parish of Saint Columbkille. This is my fourth assignment since I was ordained by Bishop Lennon in 2012. Previously, I was a priest at Saint Rita in Solon, Sacred Heart of Jesus in Wadsworth and Saint John Neumann in Strongsville.

From my earliest memories, I remember arriving with my mother to my home parish and church, Saint Joseph in Strongsville, and kneeling in front of the tabernacle and the Blessed Sacrament. It was always so quiet and peaceful. I was also lucky to have known great men who gave their life in the vocation of priesthood. First Communions, Confirmations, Baptisms and graduations were quite common growing up with two brothers and two sisters and I can remember priests always being a part of the celebrations. It was in those earliest of days that I began to think about what it would mean for me to be a humble priest of God.

After attending Saints Joseph and John School, I went to Padua Franciscan on State road here in Parma. I look fondly on those early years of playing Baseball and Football and meeting people who became close friends to this very day. Like so many youngsters both before and after me, I truly began to think what God wanted from me or what direction he was pointing me. In the end, I graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in History and began to work in many different fields following graduation. I was in sales in Chicago selling internet access to businesses, sold suits and sport coats at Dillard’s in Strongsville, coached football at Midpark High School and even went back to school at Cleveland State and became a licensed Secondary Social Studies teacher. Finally, I had a moment of clarity and decided to finally give this calling to the priesthood a chance. I will never forget that moment. There was an unmistakable sense of peace. I entered Saint Mary Seminary here in the Diocese of Cleveland in 2005 and have been truly humbled how the mercy of god has worked in my life.

I love sports, especially baseball and am also a member of the Saint Pat’s/Saint Jarlath’s Gaelic Football Society. I love my family deeply. My father retired from the East Ohio Gas Company and my mother is retired from her days of being a waitress. My brothers and sisters are all married with children. I am a proud uncle to ten and can often be found cheering them on at volleyball courts, ice rinks, football and soccer fields.

My favorite saint is Patrick because he was a fearless man of God who tirelessly brought the Gospel to an entire nation. He is a great reminder in our time that anything is possible with God.
